Large gathering of farmers at Seminis® event in Latehar

Ranchi, Wednesday, 24 January 2018: Monsanto India, a sustainable agriculture company, today showcased its high yielding Seminis® Tomato hybrid "Abhilash" at a mega farmer meet in Latehar district. Many farmers and trade partners participated in the event to witness the benefits of this hybrid. Besides showcasing the high yielding seeds, Monsanto also felicitated 5 farmers for their significant contribution towards sustainable farming.

Farmers in Jharkhand have always preferred Seminis® seeds for their uniform and heavy fruit setting, faster maturity and increased yields. The "Abhilash" variety of Seminis® hybrid is characterised by shiny red fruits and its exceptional resistance to Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Virus (TYLCV) which was a major challenge for vegetable farmers.

Manoj Rathore, Regional Sales Manager, Jharkhand, said, "Farmers have consistently reposed their faith in Seminis® hybrids and their overwhelming response today is a testimony to the same. We constantly engage with the farmers across the country and our endeavour is to understand their needs and requirements better. Our wide range of hybrid seeds are adaptable to the local growing conditions thereby helping thousands of farmers earn better profits."

Monsanto’s field teams, 80 per cent of them from rural backgrounds, constantly engage with farmers to provide inputs on best crop management practices, enabling secure and optimum yields.

Harishchandra Saw, a farmer from, Latehar district said, "I am very happy with excellent output that I have received using Abhilash® tomato hybrid in my field. The hybrid has high yields and uniformity over multiple pickings. Moreover, it has shown high resistance and consistence in adverse climate. Abhilash® has helped me fetch excellent prices for my produce."

With an objective to demonstrate new concepts and technologies to various stakeholders, Monsanto has established Centres of Excellence (CoEs) across the country. At these CoEs, farmers witness techniques for Integrated Weed Management, Technology Showcasing, High Density & Mechanical Planting, Weed Control and Crop Diversification amongst others.

Seminis® hybrid vegetable seeds offer farmers higher yield potential, quick maturity and uniformity in size, shape and colour as compared to using other seed varieties. Consumers have more than 110 distinct vegetable seeds representing major vegetable crops of the country
