Monsanto Australia supports the next crop of produce leaders

The rising stars of Asia Pacific’s fresh produce industry are set to receive world-class training through a first-of-its-kind leadership development program.

The Emerging Leaders Program will prepare high potential leaders in the fresh produce industry to embrace increasing levels of responsibility and prepare them for the challenges and opportunities they will face in their future leadership roles.

This is the first time that the program is being offered in the region following the program’s success in the United States.

Monsanto Australia has teamed up with the Produce Marketers Association Australia & New Zealand (PMA ANZ), Thunderbird School of Global Management (TSGM) and the PMA Foundation for Industry Talent to develop the future leaders of fresh produce companies.

Monsanto’s Australia & New Zealand Country Lead, Daniel Kruithoff, said we need to invest in talent today in order to develop the leaders of tomorrow.

“We are excited to be part of this unique and intensive program designed to increase performance, focus abilities and equip industry professionals with critical management and thinking skills.

“Today’s top talent will take the next leap in their career after completing the Emerging Leaders Program. The rigorous course spans finance, leadership, communications and negotiations and builds their credentials as future industry leaders,” said Mr Kruithoff.

Upon completion of this program, participants can expect to make an immediate and positive impact on their business with fine-tuned strategic thinking, crisis management, communication, negotiation, and team leadership skills.

Led by a collection of TSGM faculty, industry leaders, and topical authorities, students will learn to face real industry challenges head on with intelligent and skillful execution.

PMA A-NZ CEO Michael Worthington said the program will transform promising talent into successful industry leaders.

"This course, run in the United States by the PMA Foundation for Industry Talent and TSGM, has been so successful that we felt, with the support of Monsanto, that we just had to bring it to our region: it is proven, customised for our industry and has some really unique elements.

The course focuses on equipping attendees with the skills they will need to negotiate supply chain value and insight in the global context. Top-tier international organisations such as retailer ALDI and food service operator Bidvest New Zealand have sent their best employees to the program, with participants attending from as far afield as China.

The Emerging Leaders Program runs from August to November 2013 and features three online components as well as a compulsory intensive residential course to be held at the University of Auckland in New Zealand from 22 to 25 September.
